On Friday afternoon, a longtime public utilities employee opened fire at random at his co-workers with a handgun in a building in Virginia Beach, Va., showed a scene of bloodshed, according to authorities.
However, the sudden but horrifying incident left a dozen people dead and wounded a number of others although the gunman died after an extended shootout with the police officers.
Authorities also revealed that it was approaching closing time in an office offering some of the most routine functions of city government, as well as paying water bills and applying for building permits, at the moment the employee went fanatical and started showing aggression through numerous floors firing at his coworkers.
The annoyed person sprayed bullets on workers who in the response, tried moving quickly and closing their office doors.
One of the workers at this building’s first floor where the deadliest event occurred, Zand Bakhtiari, 28, told in a telephone interview that the shooting took place nearly 4 p.m., when he was through the people were running and screaming.
He said, “I thought they were running to the scene of a bad car accident,”
He continued saying that at the moment he haven’t heard any shooting sound, but his boss had been left who called him to stay inside the office to keep him safe because there was an armed person. After hearing the call, Bakhtiari told that thing others in office that shut the office and went down.
Following doing this, everyone who was there heard 50 to 60 gunshots. “It was a lot of shots,” Bakhtiari said. It also reported to be that after five or 10 minutes, a police SWAT team reached there and overcame the worsen condition.
The Police Chief told reporters that bodies of victims were on all three floors of the building,
Authorities left unaware about identities of the victims for hours and also zipped their lips over the cause of the attack. Nevertheless, one of the dead was found outside in a car.
