However, his father was of Portuguese (from Madeira) and Swedish ancestry, and mother is Jewish, who belongs to a family of Russian-Jewish descent.

After achieving 15 months of acting training, Franco started auditioning in Los Angeles. Finally he earned his first paid role in a television commercial for Pizza Hut, in which he had to perform a dancing Elvis Presley (who passed away in 1977).

Franco then made some cameos on television shows although he attained critical acclaim in 1999, after performing on the short-lived but well-reviewed NBC television series Freaks and Geeks playing a leading role. Nonetheless, the show included 18 episodes and ended because of low viewership.

On the other side, Franco’s work with fellow actor Seth Rogen in eight films and one television series made him more considerable star all around the world. He became more popular for his critically acclaimed lead act in the film “127 Hours” in 2010 that brought his nomination for an Academy Award for Best Actor.
