James Franco is his stage given name, while he is son of Betsy Lou who is a children’s book author and occasional actress, and Douglas Eugene Franco, ran a Silicon Valley business. However, his father was of Portuguese (from Madeira) and Swedish ancestry, and mother is Jewish, who belongs to a family of Russian-Jewish descent.

Career

After achieving 15 months of acting training, Franco started auditioning in Los Angeles. Finally he earned his first paid role in a television commercial for Pizza Hut, in which he had to perform a dancing Elvis Presley (who passed away in 1977).

Franco then made some cameos on television shows although he attained critical acclaim in 1999, after performing on the short-lived but well-reviewed NBC television series Freaks and Geeks playing a leading role. Nonetheless, the show included 18 episodes and ended because of low viewership.
